Master’s Thesis Oral Defense Procedures (Students Enrolled Since AY 2023)
Thesis Oral Defense Period:
- First Semester: October 1 – January 31 of the following year
- Second Semester: April 1 – July 31
Before Applying for the Oral Defense, Please Check:
- Have you completed any required English course exemptions?
- Have all required courses been completed?
- Are your earned credits sufficient?
- Has the draft thesis been completed?
- Has your thesis topic passed the Professional Field Compliance Review?

Log in to the Student Portal >> Enter thesis and advisor information >> Fill out Thesis Information Maintenance >> Fill out Advisor Maintenance >> Download documents >> 5. Application Form for Thesis Professional Field Review >> Advisor’s signature required >> Submit by laboratory/unit to the department office.
Important: Students may not apply for the degree examination before passing this review. After approval, if the research topic or objectives require minor changes, modifications can still be made in the thesis system.
Confirm with your advisor whether the thesis requires delayed public release, and ensure the application form and supporting documents are complete.

Preparation Before the Oral Defense
All of the following six documents must be submitted to the department office at least 10 working days before the defense (excluding holidays), organized in the order listed below:
- Master’s Thesis Examination Application Form
- List of Thesis Examination Committee Members
- Advisor’s Recommendation for Master’s Thesis
- Official Academic Transcript
- Originality Report for the Thesis (all references excluded), signed by both the advisor and the student
- Copy of the Draft Thesis (please bind)
Reserve the T1-200 meeting room for the oral defense schedule.
On the Day of the Oral Defense
After the oral defense, bring the Committee Approval Form to the department office for official stamping and submit the Defense Fee Receipt.
Important: If you have applied for delayed public release of the thesis, the application form and supporting documents must be presented to all committee members for review and signatures on the day of the defense, and then submitted to the department office for official stamping.
Please Note:
The final version of the thesis (including both printed and electronic copies) must be submitted by the registration deadline of the following semester.
If the submission is delayed but within the maximum study period, students must still register for that semester and submit the thesis before the semester’s final deadline to qualify for graduation.
